Description
Overview
The SECO 5219-03 Carbon Fiber Thumb-Release Bipod provides lightweight, freestanding support for GNSS rover rods, prism poles, range poles, and other compatible survey poles.
Based on the proven design of SECO’s aluminum Thumb-Release Bipod, this model uses carbon fiber components to reduce weight while maintaining the familiar independent leg adjustment and open-clamp mounting system.
The No-Crush head helps prevent excessive clamping force from damaging carbon fiber poles. Standard poles from 1 to 1.25 inches in outside diameter attach through the open clamp, while compatible 1.5-inch poles can be loaded through the top.
Key Features

Lightweight Carbon Fiber Construction
The SECO 5219-03 uses carbon fiber components to reduce weight compared with SECO’s traditional aluminum Thumb-Release Bipod.
Its lighter construction makes the bipod easier to carry between survey points and helps reduce the overall equipment load for crews transporting a rover pole, receiver, controller, and other field accessories.
No-Crush Bipod Head
The No-Crush head is designed to protect compatible carbon fiber range poles and prism poles from excessive clamping pressure.
Its contoured design helps prevent the pole from being crushed, cracked, or permanently deformed, even when additional tightening force is applied.
This feature is especially important when using lightweight carbon fiber poles that may be more susceptible to damage from conventional clamps.
Open-Clamp Pole Mounting
Poles from 1 to 1.25 inches in outside diameter attach through the open side of the bipod clamp.
The open design allows compatible poles to be installed without removing a prism, GNSS receiver, antenna, or other accessory mounted at the top.
Standard pole compatibility includes:
- 1 in OD
- 1.25 in OD
- 25.4 to 31.8 mm OD
Always confirm the outside diameter of the intended pole before ordering.
Top-Loading 1.5-Inch Poles
Compatible poles with a 1.5-inch, or 38.1 mm, outside diameter can be installed through the top of the bipod head.
Because these larger poles cannot pass through the open side of the clamp, equipment mounted above the clamp may need to be removed before installation.
Independent Thumb-Release Legs
Each bipod leg adjusts independently using SECO’s thumb-release mechanism.
Independent adjustment allows the bipod to be stabilized on:
- Sloped ground
- Uneven terrain
- Curbs and steps
- Pavement
- Dirt and gravel
- Rough construction surfaces
The thumb-operated controls allow the legs to be extended, positioned, and secured efficiently as crews move between measurement points.
Adjustable Working Length
The SECO 5219-03 has the following specified leg dimensions:
- Maximum extension: 6 ft (1.8 m)
- Collapsed length: 43 in (109 cm)
The adjustable legs provide a stable freestanding setup while collapsing into a more manageable size for transportation and storage.
Freestanding Pole Support
The bipod can provide freestanding support for compatible:
- GNSS rover rods
- Prism poles
- Range poles
- Antenna poles
- Monitoring poles
- General survey poles
This allows the operator to temporarily release the pole while entering field data, adjusting equipment, reviewing measurements, or completing nearby layout work.
The setup should remain monitored in windy conditions, near traffic, or around active construction equipment.
Ideal Applications
- GNSS rover surveying
- Robotic total station surveying
- Prism pole support
- Construction layout
- Boundary surveying
- Topographic surveying
- Utility mapping
- Grade staking
- Monitoring applications
- Engineering fieldwork
- Freestanding survey pole setups
