Overview

The CHCNAV iBase GNSS Base Kit is a purpose-built professional GNSS base station designed to simplify RTK surveying by combining high-performance satellite tracking, an integrated long-range UHF radio, cellular connectivity, and dual removable batteries into one rugged receiver.

Rather than relying on a separate external radio, antenna system, and large external battery, the iBase integrates a 5 W UHF transceiver directly into the receiver. This helps reduce the amount of equipment that needs to be transported, connected, and configured in the field while providing the transmission power needed for demanding RTK base applications. CHCNAV's DistLink technology further extends communication capability, with optimal radio coverage of up to 30 km (18.6 mi) under suitable conditions.

At the heart of the iBase is a 1408-channel GNSS engine capable of tracking GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, BeiDou, QZSS, SBAS, and supported PPP signals. RTK positioning accuracy is specified at 8 mm + 1 ppm horizontal and 15 mm + 1 ppm vertical, providing the correction quality required for professional surveying, construction layout, site development, mining, and other high-accuracy GNSS workflows.

The complete iBase Base Kit includes the receiver, two 7000 mAh batteries, charger, UHF antenna, optical tribrach, tribrach adapter, 30 cm extension pole, height-measurement accessories, and a transport hard case, creating a field-ready base station package.

Integrated 5 W UHF Base Radio

One of the iBase's primary advantages is its integrated high-power UHF radio. Traditional GNSS base setups may require an external radio, separate radio battery, cabling, and additional mounting hardware. The iBase brings the radio directly into the receiver, helping create a cleaner and considerably faster base-station setup.

The internal UHF radio operates within the 410–470 MHz range and offers selectable transmission power up to 5 W. Supported protocols include CHC, DistLink, Transparent, TT450, and Satel, with 9600 and 19200 bps link rates specified in the current data sheet.

CHCNAV's user guide describes the iBase specifically as a professional GNSS base station designed to provide performance similar to configurations using an external radio while eliminating the need to carry a heavy external battery, external radio, and separate radio antenna system.

DistLink Long-Range Communication

The iBase incorporates CHCNAV DistLink technology, which combines a new-generation UHF radio transmission method with CHCNAV's GNSS differential-data compression technology.

By reducing the amount of correction data that must be transmitted over the radio link, DistLink is designed to improve radio sensitivity and extend the usable communication range between the base and rover.

CHCNAV specifies:

  • Typical UHF operating range: 8–12 km
  • Optimal range with DistLink: up to 30 km
  • Typical range with other supported protocols: 5–8 km
  • Optimal range with other protocols: up to 25 km

Actual radio range depends heavily on terrain, antenna placement, interference, obstructions, radio settings, and local regulations.

For large construction sites, mining operations, road projects, rural surveying, and other jobs where rover crews may work far from the base, this additional communication capability can significantly reduce the need to relocate the base station.

13+ Hour Base Station Runtime

Long operating time is particularly important for a GNSS base station because losing base power interrupts corrections for every rover connected to it.

The iBase uses two removable 7000 mAh, 7.4 V lithium-ion batteries. When operating as a UHF base using DistLink, CHCNAV specifies runtime of up to 13 hours. Using other radio protocols, rated operating time is approximately 8–10 hours, while static operation can reach up to 25 hours depending on settings and environmental conditions.

Both batteries are included with this kit, along with the C300 charging system.

Ultra Base for Simplified RTK Setup

The iBase supports CHCNAV's Ultra Base workflow, designed to simplify communication between a base station and compatible rovers.

Ultra Base can transmit differential corrections through radio and network links, allowing compatible rover workflows to select or transition between available correction methods. The current CHCNAV user guide includes setup procedures for Ultra Base directly through LandStar, including starting from either an autonomous position or a known control point.

This approach helps reduce the amount of manual radio and network configuration required when establishing an RTK base/rover system.

Availability and functionality of Ultra Base features may depend on receiver firmware, server coverage, and system configuration.

1408-Channel Multi-Constellation GNSS

The iBase is built around a 1408-channel GNSS engine designed to track a broad range of satellite constellations and frequencies.

Supported systems include:

  • GPS: L1C/A, L2C, L2P(Y), L5
  • GLONASS: L1, L2, L3*
  • Galileo: E1, E5a, E5b, E6*
  • BeiDou: B1I, B2I, B3I, B1C, B2a, B2b*
  • QZSS: L1C/A, L1C, L2C, L5
  • NavIC/IRNSS: L5
  • SBAS: L1, L5*
  • PPP: B2b-PPP and Galileo HAS support as specified by CHCNAV*

The receiver also incorporates advanced multipath mitigation algorithms to help improve positioning performance where reflected satellite signals may otherwise reduce measurement quality.

*Availability of certain signals or services may depend on firmware and service availability.

Professional RTK Accuracy

For real-time kinematic surveying, the iBase is specified at:

  • Horizontal RTK: 8 mm + 1 ppm RMS
  • Vertical RTK: 15 mm + 1 ppm RMS
  • Initialization time: less than 10 seconds
  • Initialization reliability: greater than 99.9%

The receiver can also be used for static and post-processing workflows. CHCNAV specifies high-precision static horizontal accuracy of 2.5 mm + 0.1 ppm RMS and vertical accuracy of 3.5 mm + 0.4 ppm RMS under suitable conditions.

Integrated 4G, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth

The iBase provides multiple communication options for configuring the receiver and distributing GNSS correction data.

The receiver includes:

  • Integrated 4G cellular modem
  • Wi-Fi 802.11/n
  • Bluetooth 5.0
  • NFC
  • NTRIP Client capability
  • NTRIP Caster capability
  • TCP/IP and UDP communication options

Using LandStar, operators can connect to the iBase through either Wi-Fi or Bluetooth for receiver configuration. The receiver also provides its own browser-based interface over Wi-Fi for reviewing satellite tracking, receiver status, reference-station settings, data logging, radio configuration, and other system parameters.

Built for Demanding Field Conditions

The iBase is designed for the environments commonly encountered in professional surveying and construction.

Its housing is rated:

  • IP67 dustproof and waterproof
  • Protected against temporary immersion to a depth of 1 meter
  • IK08 impact rating
  • Designed to survive a 2-meter pole drop
  • Operating temperature: -40°C to +65°C (-40°F to +149°F)
  • Storage temperature: -40°C to +85°C (-40°F to +185°F)
  • 100% non-condensing humidity resistance

The integrated receiver/radio/battery design also eliminates many of the external cables and separate components that can complicate traditional high-power base setups.

Easy Base Station Setup

The included base accessories allow the receiver to be mounted over a known control point using a conventional surveying tripod.

The CHCNAV setup illustrated in the iBase user guide uses the receiver together with the included 30 cm extension pole, tribrach adapter, and optical tribrach. The included H.I. tape and auxiliary H.I. tool are used to accurately measure antenna height for the base station.

The receiver itself uses a standard 5/8"-11 threaded connection, allowing it to integrate with common survey mounting equipment.

Tripod is not included with this kit.

The CHCNAV iBase is well suited for:

  • RTK GNSS base station operation
  • Construction layout
  • Site development
  • Topographic surveying
  • Boundary and cadastral surveying
  • Road and highway construction
  • Earthwork and grading
  • Mining operations
  • Long-range rural surveying
  • Static GNSS observations
