Overview
The Topcon TP-L6 Series Pipe Laser is a professional-grade alignment and grade laser designed for pipe installation, sewer construction, trenching, tunneling, mining, and other underground utility applications. Built around a compact housing, long-lasting rechargeable battery, and convenient remote-control capabilities, the TP-L6 helps crews establish and maintain precise line and grade while working efficiently in confined jobsite conditions.
Its compact design makes the TP-L6 easier to position in tight pipe inverts, while the rugged cast-aluminum waterproof housing is designed for demanding underground environments. A large illuminated LCD provides clear access to grade and setup information, and Topcon's line control and automatic centering functions simplify everyday operation.

Five TP-L6 Models to Match Your Application
The TP-L6 Series is available in five configurations, allowing you to select the beam color and alignment features best suited for your work.
TP-L6B - Basic Red Beam
Part Number: 1034437-05
The TP-L6B provides the core TP-L6 pipe-laser functionality with a traditional red laser beam. It is an excellent choice for contractors who need dependable line and grade control without Auto Alignment or a plumb laser.
A physical centering pivot point on top of the instrument assists with centering during the initial setup.
TP-L6AV - Red Beam with Auto Alignment & Plumb Beam
Part Number: 1034437-08
The TP-L6AV is the most fully featured red-beam configuration. It adds Auto Alignment along with an up/down plumb beam, providing additional setup and alignment capabilities for crews that prefer a red working laser.
TP-L6BG - Basic Green Beam
Part Number: 1034437-07
The TP-L6BG combines the straightforward operation of the basic model with a highly visible green laser beam. Like the TP-L6B, it uses a physical centering pivot point on top of the laser to assist with initial setup.
TP-L6G - Green Beam with Auto Alignment
Part Number: 1034437-06
The TP-L6G adds Auto Alignment to the high-visibility green laser platform. It is an excellent middle-ground configuration for crews that want the advantages of a green beam and faster second-day setup without requiring an up/down plumb beam.
The TP-L6G also uses an LED centering indicator to assist with initial positioning.
TP-L6GV - Green Beam with Auto Alignment & Plumb Beam
Part Number: 1034437-09
The TP-L6GV is the most fully equipped model in the TP-L6 Series. It combines a green working beam, Auto Alignment, and an up/down plumb beam for maximum setup flexibility.
The up/down plumb beam on the TP-L6GV is red, providing clear visual distinction from the green alignment beam.
Red vs. Green Beam
Choosing between a red and green TP-L6 primarily comes down to visibility and application requirements.
Red beam models provide the familiar pipe-laser experience and are an excellent choice for standard underground pipe installation.
Green beam models provide enhanced beam visibility, making it easier for crews to identify the laser spot under many working conditions. This can be particularly helpful over longer runs or in environments where seeing the beam clearly is important for efficient pipe alignment.
Topcon has a long history of developing green-beam pipe lasers, and the TP-L6 continues that technology alongside the traditional red-beam options.
Auto Alignment for Faster Setup
Available on the TP-L6AV, TP-L6G, and TP-L6GV, Auto Alignment is particularly useful when returning to an existing pipe run.
Rather than manually working the beam back onto the established target, Auto Alignment provides a fast and convenient method for aligning the laser with the target. This can significantly simplify second-day setups, when the crew needs to reestablish the previous day's line and continue laying pipe.
For crews regularly completing multi-day pipe installations, this is one of the most valuable reasons to choose an Auto Alignment model over the basic TP-L6B or TP-L6BG.
Plumb Beam for Initial Setup
The TP-L6AV and TP-L6GV add an up/down plumb beam to assist with positioning the pipe laser during initial setup.
Instead of relying solely on an external reference or mechanical centering mark, the plumb beam provides a visible vertical reference above and below the instrument.
This makes the AV and GV configurations especially useful for crews that frequently establish the pipe laser over a known point or want a faster visual method for positioning the instrument.
Topcon Laser Manager Mobile App
One of the TP-L6's most useful features is its ability to be controlled remotely with the Topcon Laser Manager mobile app.
Instead of repeatedly entering a trench, manhole, or confined area to make adjustments directly on the laser, operators can access many commonly used functions from a compatible mobile device.
Laser Manager can provide access to functions including:
- Automatic target acquisition
- Move the laser beam left
- Move the laser beam right
- Center the laser beam
- Check current grade status
- Set or calculate grade
- Activate the optional plumb beam
- Select steady, flashing, or low-power laser modes
- Check battery status
- Remotely view the electronic bubble level
This makes more than just setup convenient. It can reduce the amount of time workers spend climbing into manholes, trenches, cramped areas, and low-light environments simply to check or change the instrument settings.
Improved Jobsite Safety & Efficiency
Pipe-laser adjustments frequently require operators to work in locations where access is inconvenient. Every trip into and out of a trench or manhole takes time and introduces additional jobsite exposure.
The TP-L6's remote-control capabilities allow many routine adjustments to be made from a more convenient location.
Crews can check grade, adjust line, monitor battery status, and configure supported functions without physically returning to the laser for every change.
For contractors laying hundreds or thousands of feet of pipe, small workflow improvements like these can add up to meaningful time savings over the course of a project.
Up to 60 Hours of Battery Life
The TP-L6 is designed around long working periods in the field, offering up to 60 hours of battery operation.
Topcon notes that a fully charged battery can potentially provide enough runtime for an entire work week, depending on usage conditions. The battery is also part of a multi-use platform that can power a variety of compatible Topcon equipment used on the same jobsite.
Two rechargeable batteries are included with the complete kit, providing crews with additional flexibility for extended projects.
Compact Design for Tight Pipe Inverts
Space is limited when working inside smaller pipe diameters and confined trenches.
Topcon designed the TP-L6 with a smaller housing to provide greater flexibility when positioning the laser inside tighter inverts. Its removable handle provides additional setup flexibility when clearance is limited.
Despite its compact dimensions, the instrument retains a rugged cast-aluminum housing, locking battery pack, illuminated display, and the controls required for professional pipe installation.
Large Illuminated Display & Simple Controls
A large illuminated LCD makes grade and setup information easier to read in the low-light conditions commonly encountered in pipe, sewer, and underground construction.
The control panel provides direct access to frequently used functions, while line control and automatic centering simplify beam positioning.
The physical design is intended to remain straightforward enough for everyday crew use while still providing the advanced functions needed for demanding pipe-laying projects.
Rugged Construction for Underground Work
Pipe lasers operate in one of the harshest environments found on a construction site. Mud, water, dirt, vibration, transportation, and daily handling are all part of the job.
The TP-L6 is constructed with a rugged cast-aluminum waterproof housing designed specifically for these conditions. Its locking battery pack helps maintain a secure connection while working in demanding underground environments.
The combination of compact dimensions and heavy-duty construction makes the TP-L6 suitable for everyday professional use rather than occasional light-duty applications.
