Spectra Geospatial FOCUS 50 Robotic Total Station
Brochure / Data Sheet
Overview
The Spectra Geospatial FOCUS 50 Robotic Total Station is a high performance robotic solution built for one person surveying and construction layout. Designed for speed, accuracy, and reliability, the FOCUS 50 supports a wide range of workflows including topographic surveys, construction staking, boundary work, and site development.
Available in Autolock, Short Range Robotic, and Long Range Robotic configurations, the FOCUS 50 adapts easily to both urban and remote job sites. Its MagDrive servo system delivers fast, silent movement with minimal mechanical wear, allowing rapid prism acquisition and smooth tracking throughout the workday.
With selectable 1″, 2″, 3″, or 5″ angle accuracy, strong reflectorless performance, and seamless integration with Spectra data collectors and Origin field software, the FOCUS 50 is built for professionals who demand efficiency without compromise.

FOCUS 50 Model Differences Explained
The Spectra Geospatial FOCUS 50 is offered in Autolock, Short Range Robotic, and Long Range Robotic configurations. All three share the same core measurement accuracy and optics. The differences come down to how the instrument is controlled and how far it can communicate and track.
Autolock Model
The Autolock model automatically locks onto and tracks a prism, but the instrument is operated at the total station, not remotely.
- Prism tracking range: up to 700 m (2297 ft)
- Robotic control: No
- Remote data collector control: No
This model is best for two-person crews who want faster tracking than a manual total station without needing robotic radios or one-person workflows.
Best for:
Two-person survey crews
Construction layout with a rod person
Users upgrading from manual tracking
Short Range Robotic Model
The Short Range Robotic model supports true one-person operation. The total station is fully controlled from a data collector and automatically tracks the prism.
- Prism tracking range: up to 700 m (2297 ft)
- Robotic radio range: approximately 300 to 400 m (980 to 1310 ft)
- Reflectorless range: up to 1300 m (4265 ft) standard DR
This configuration is ideal for construction staking, topo, and layout work on compact to mid-size sites where long radio distances are not required.
Best for:
One person surveying
Building and roadway layout
Urban job sites
Users who do not need long-range radio communication
Long Range Robotic Model
The Long Range Robotic model provides the maximum robotic and reflectorless capability in the FOCUS 50 lineup.
- Prism tracking range: up to 700 m (2297 ft)
- Robotic radio range: up to 900 m (2950 ft) with long-range radio
-
Reflectorless range:
- 1300 m (4265 ft) standard DR
- 2200 m (7218 ft) DR Extended mode
- Prism measurement range: up to 5500 m (18,044 ft)
This model is designed for large sites, open terrain, boundary surveys, and control work where extended distances and strong radio links are required.
Best for:
Large civil projects
Boundary and control surveys
Open terrain
Users needing maximum flexibility and distance
Quick Comparison Summary
| Model | Robotic Control | Prism Tracking Range | Radio Control Range | Reflectorless Range |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Autolock | No | Up to 2297 ft | N/A | Up to 4265 ft |
| Short Range Robotic | Yes | Up to 2297 ft | Approximately 980 to 1310 ft | Up to 4265 ft |
| Long Range Robotic | Yes | Up to 2297 ft | Up to 2950 ft | Up to 7218 ft |
- Tracking performance is the same
- The difference is how far you can control the instrument remotely and how large your job sites are
