XF HP vs Standard Nikon XF

Time-of-flight and phase shift EDMs differ in how they measure distance:

• Time-of-flight EDM calculates distance by measuring how long it takes a laser pulse to travel to a target and return. It's ideal for long-range, fast measurements, but is generally less precise.
• Phase shift EDM compares the phase of emitted and reflected continuous wave signals to calculate distance. It offers higher precision, especially at short to medium ranges, and is better for detailed or close-up work, such as corners and edges.

In short, time-of-flight is faster and better for range, while phase shift is slower but more accurate.

The XF HP sacrifices autofocus in favor of tighter precision and longer runtime, making it better suited for detailed measurement and layout work that demands consistency and accuracy over distance.
