Overview
The CHCNAV i89 is a compact Visual IMU-RTK GNSS receiver designed for professional land surveying, construction layout, mapping, and engineering applications. It combines a 1408-channel GNSS engine, CHCNAV iStar2.0 technology, a 200 Hz AUTO-IMU, dual integrated cameras, visual surveying, AR stakeout, and an internal UHF radio in a lightweight receiver weighing only 750 g (1.65 lb).
The i89 provides conventional centimeter-level RTK positioning while adding camera-based tools that can make difficult measurements and stakeout workflows considerably easier. Its Visual Survey capability allows coordinates to be determined from captured imagery, while Visual Navigation and AR Stakeout provide intuitive camera guidance toward design points.
When paired with the optional CHCNAV iBase, the system becomes a complete radio base-and-rover RTK solution. Customers can then select the controller that best fits their workflow, from the ultra-bright TRIPLTEK X PRO to CHCNAV's LT800 tablet or HCE620 QWERTY data collector.

1408-Channel GNSS with iStar2.0
The i89's 1408-channel GNSS engine provides multi-frequency tracking across the major global navigation satellite constellations.
Supported systems include:
- GPS: L1C/A, L2C, L2P(Y), L5
- GLONASS: L1, L2, L3*
- Galileo: E1, E5a, E5b, E6*
- BeiDou: B1I, B2I, B3I, B1C, B2a, B2b*
- QZSS: L1C/A, L1C, L2C, L5
- NavIC / IRNSS: L5
- SBAS: L1, L5*
- PPP: B2b-PPP and E6B-HAS support
CHCNAV's iStar2.0 technology combines multi-constellation tracking with interference and multipath mitigation to improve RTK performance in more challenging satellite environments.
*Signal availability may depend on firmware and satellite services.
Professional RTK Accuracy
For conventional RTK surveying, the i89 provides:
- Horizontal: 8 mm + 1 ppm RMS
- Vertical: 15 mm + 1 ppm RMS
- Initialization time: Less than 10 seconds
- Initialization reliability: Greater than 99.9%
The receiver also supports PPK, static, rapid-static, and high-precision static GNSS workflows.
Visual Surveying
The i89's integrated cameras allow points to be measured without always placing the range pole directly on the target.
With Visual Survey, the operator records imagery of the area and selects the desired point from the captured images. LandStar then calculates the corresponding coordinates.
CHCNAV specifies a typical Visual Survey performance of approximately:
- 2–4 cm accuracy
- 2–15 m working range
This can be especially useful when measuring:
- Building corners
- Areas behind fences
- Utility structures
- Excavations
- Slopes
- Traffic areas
- Inaccessible or unsafe points
AR Visual Stakeout
The i89 also uses its cameras to provide Visual Navigation and AR Stakeout through LandStar.
Rather than working only from arrows and distance values, the operator can view the target directly through a live camera display and follow graphical guidance toward the point.
This provides a more intuitive workflow for:
- Construction layout
- Boundary stakeout
- Utility layout
- CAD stakeout
- Site development
- High-volume point staking
200 Hz AUTO-IMU Tilt Compensation
The integrated 200 Hz AUTO-IMU allows points to be measured while the survey pole is tilted as much as 60°.
This helps crews work more efficiently next to:
- Walls
- Buildings
- Vehicles
- Fences
- Trenches
- Vegetation
- Other obstacles
The IMU is calibration-free during normal use and does not depend on magnetic heading, helping maintain reliable tilt performance around metal structures and equipment.
Integrated UHF Radio
The i89 includes an internal 410–470 MHz UHF Tx/Rx radio.
Because the radio supports both receive and transmit operation, the i89 can be configured as either a UHF rover or a UHF base when used with the appropriate accessories.
Radio specifications include:
- 410–470 MHz
- 0.5 W / 1 W transmit power
- CHC
- Transparent
- TT450
- Satel
- Typical range: approximately 3 km
- Optimal conditions: up to approximately 8 km
When the i89 + iBase configuration is selected, the dedicated iBase serves as the primary base station while the i89 operates as the rover.
Optional iBase GNSS Base Station
For customers who need their own local RTK corrections, the i89 Rover Kit + iBase Kit option provides a complete base-and-rover GNSS system.
The iBase is a dedicated GNSS base station featuring:
- 1408-channel GNSS
- Integrated 5 W UHF radio
- CHCNAV DistLink technology
- Typical radio range of 8–12 km
- Optimal DistLink range up to 30 km
- Dual removable 7000 mAh batteries
- Integrated 4G cellular modem
- Complete tribrach and base mounting accessories
This eliminates the need to depend entirely on a CORS or NTRIP network and provides a dedicated correction source for projects where local radio RTK is preferred.
LandStar 8 GNSS Data Collection Software
Available tablet configurations include a LandStar Android GNSS License – Part Number 4109 020 227.
CHCNAV LandStar 8 provides the field software used to configure the i89, receive RTK corrections, collect points, stake design data, and manage survey projects.
Major LandStar GNSS functions include:
- RTK GNSS surveying
- NTRIP / CORS connections
- UHF radio workflows
- Point collection
- Control point surveying
- Continuous survey
- Static and PPK workflows

- Point and line stakeout
- CAD stakeout
- Surface stakeout
- Road stakeout
- Site calibration
- Coordinate system management
