Description
Overview
The SECO 90550 Tri-Max Standard Quick Clamp Instrument Tripod is a surveying-grade fiberglass tripod designed for robotic and servo-driven total stations, 3D laser scanners, construction lasers, and other precision instruments.
The Tri-Max design meets the ISO 12858-2-H standard out of the box and is engineered to maintain dependable stability after years of field use. Its quick-clamp leg locks allow fast height adjustments, while the fiberglass legs, wide footbeds, and integrated leg-retaining system provide a stable platform across demanding jobsite conditions.
A 6-5/8-inch flat head with a large 2-5/8-inch center opening simplifies instrument mounting and setup over a survey point. The tripod supports equipment weighing up to 65 lb, extends to 71 inches, and collapses to 44.5 inches for transportation and storage.

Surveying-Grade Stability
The SECO Tri-Max is designed for precision equipment that requires a rigid and dependable mounting platform.
Unwanted tripod movement can affect angular measurements, point-cloud registration, construction layout, monitoring results, and laser alignment. The Tri-Max design helps provide the stability needed for demanding surveying, scanning, and construction applications.
It is particularly well suited for:
- Robotic total stations
- Servo-driven total stations
- 3D laser scanners
- Construction lasers
- Precision optical instruments
- Heavy surveying equipment
ISO 12858-2-H Performance
The SECO 90550 is designed to meet the ISO 12858-2-H standard directly out of the box and maintain its performance through years of regular field use.
This standard addresses the stability and performance requirements of surveying instrument tripods. A stable tripod helps minimize instrument movement caused by vibration, leg deflection, uneven ground, and changing field conditions.
Quick-Clamp Leg Locks
The SECO 90550 uses quick-clamp locks for fast leg adjustment.
Each tripod leg can be independently extended, positioned, and secured using the clamp mechanism. This design makes it easier to adjust the tripod height while moving between survey points or setting up on uneven terrain.
All leg clamps should be checked before mounting an instrument and periodically inspected during extended setups.
65 lb Equipment Capacity
The Tri-Max supports instruments weighing up to:
- 65 lb
- 30 kg
Its high load capacity accommodates heavier surveying and scanning equipment that may exceed the practical limits of lighter general-purpose tripods.
The instrument should always be centered and securely mounted after the tripod legs have been firmly planted.
6-5/8-Inch Flat Head
The tripod features a 6-5/8-inch flat head that provides a broad mounting surface for compatible instruments.
The flat-head design supports common surveying, scanning, and construction equipment when used with the appropriate tribrach, base, or mounting connection.
Large 2-5/8-Inch Center Opening
A large 2-5/8-inch center opening makes it easier to position the tripod over a control point, monument, nail, or other survey reference.
The wider opening provides improved visibility through an instrument’s optical or laser plummet and allows additional room for shifting the tripod head during initial setup.
Fiberglass Leg Construction
The SECO 90550 uses fiberglass legs for rigidity, durability, and dependable field performance.
Fiberglass is commonly used for precision instrument tripods because it provides a sturdy support structure while offering different thermal and electrical properties than conventional metal tripod legs.
Proper safety procedures must still be followed when working near overhead power lines, energized equipment, or other electrical hazards.
Integrated Leg-Retaining System
A built-in retaining system helps prevent the tripod legs from kicking outward on smooth or slick surfaces.
The retaining components are stored inside the tripod legs and can remain in place when the tripod is collapsed and not in use. This keeps the system organized and ready whenever additional leg security is required.
The retaining system provides added stability but does not replace proper setup, inspection, or supervision.
Large Footbeds
Each tripod foot includes a large footbed that provides room for applying downward pressure and firmly planting the point.
The shape and size of the feet are designed to support stable placement across a variety of surfaces, including:
- Soil
- Gravel
- Compacted construction areas
- Pavement
- Uneven ground
- Sloped terrain
All three feet should be securely positioned before equipment is mounted.
Replaceable Points and Safety-Strap Loops
Each tripod foot includes a replaceable point, allowing worn ground-contact components to be serviced without replacing the complete leg assembly.
Retention loops are also provided for use with a compatible safety strap. A safety strap can provide additional security around traffic, vibration, slick surfaces, or active construction equipment.
Safety straps are sold separately unless otherwise specified.
Adjustable Working Height
The SECO 90550 provides the following specified dimensions:
- Extended height: 71 in (1.8 m)
- Collapsed length: 44.5 in (113 cm)
The independently adjustable legs allow the tripod head to be positioned for different instruments, operators, terrain conditions, and line-of-sight requirements.
Ideal Applications
- Robotic total station surveying
- Servo-driven total station operation
- 3D laser scanning
- Construction laser setup
- Precision construction layout
- Structural monitoring
- Machine and structural alignment
- Boundary surveying
- Topographic surveying
- Control-point measurements
- Engineering and industrial surveying
