Description

Data Sheet

Overview

The Leica AP20 AutoPole is a smart pole system designed to make robotic total station work faster, more accurate, and easier to manage in the field. Depending on the configuration selected, the AP20 can help eliminate manual pole height entry, allow tilt-compensated measurements, and prevent locking onto the wrong prism on busy jobsites.

This product can be configured with different AP20 feature options and pole choices, including PoleHeight, TargetID, Tilt Compensation, or the full combination of all three. It is ideal for survey and construction crews using compatible Leica robotic total stations who want to improve productivity and reduce common field errors.

What’s Included

When no additional pole, prism, charger, container, or accessory variants are selected, the standard AP20 configuration includes:

  • 1 × AP20 Quick Guide, multi-language (p/n: 949156)
  • 1 × GEB321 Li-Ion Battery, 7.2V / 3350mAh (p/n: 898414)
  • 1 × GEV284 USB 3.1 Type-A to USB-C Cable, 1.5 m (p/n: 879372)

Available AP20 Function Options

The AP20 AutoPole is available in multiple feature configurations depending on your workflow.

  • PoleHeight
  • TargetID
  • PoleHeight + Tilt Compensation
  • PoleHeight + Tilt Compensation + TargetID

PoleHeight automatically updates the pole height in the field software when the pole height changes. Tilt Compensation allows measurements without perfectly leveling the pole. TargetID helps the total station identify and lock onto the correct target, reducing the chance of measuring to the wrong prism on busy sites.

Available Pole Options

This product can be configured with no pole or with one of the Leica AP reflector pole options.

  • None
  • GLS51 Carbon Fiber, 2.20 m, Leica Tip
  • GLS51F Carbon Fiber, 7 ft, Leica Tip
  • CRP4 Carbon Fiber, 2.20 m, 5/8" Thread Tip
  • CRP5 Carbon Fiber, 7 ft, 5/8" Thread Tip

The GLS51 and GLS51F poles are designed around Leica’s surveying stub interface, while the CRP4 and CRP5 poles use a construction-style 5/8" screw interface.

Key Features

  • Automatic PoleHeight updates help reduce manual entry mistakes
  • Tilt Compensation allows faster measurements without leveling the pole
  • TargetID helps prevent locking onto the wrong target
  • Designed for compatible Leica robotic total station workflows
  • Typical AP20 range to total station: 300 m
  • TargetID working range: typically 150 m
  • 16 different TargetID options
  • Exchangeable GEB321 Li-Ion battery
  • IP67 dust and water protection
  • Operating temperature range from -30°C to +60°C
  • Lightweight AP20 body, approximately 0.5 kg with battery

PoleHeight

The PoleHeight function helps eliminate one of the most common field mistakes: entering the wrong pole height. When the pole height changes, the AP20 automatically updates the height setting in the field software.

This is especially useful for crews frequently adjusting pole heights during layout, topo, or construction measurement work.

Tilt Compensation

Tilt Compensation allows users to collect accurate measurements without keeping the pole perfectly plumb. This helps crews measure around obstacles, reach difficult points, and move faster through high-volume data collection.

For construction layout and robotic total station work, this can save time while helping maintain reliable results.

TargetID

TargetID is designed for busy jobsites where multiple prisms, crews, or robotic instruments may operate simultaneously. It helps the total station identify and lock onto the correct target, reducing interruptions and minimizing the risk of measuring to another crew’s prism.

This is especially valuable for large construction sites and multi-crew survey environments.
